Film and Theatre: Fostering Cross-Cultural Collaboration and Trade
The Events Department at ELYSIAN is hosting a free virtual event titled “Film and Theatre: Fostering Cross-Cultural Collaboration and Trade” in partnership with the Film Association of Malawi (FAMA), Jacaranda Cultural Centre and Maison de la France, SOTAMBE Film Institute, the Cinema Society of Zimbabwe, and the Zimbabwe Annual Film and Television Awards (ZAFTAs). The event will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 6 - 8 PM CAT.
The aim of the event is to create a platform through which key players in the Film and Theatre industries in the Southern Africa region, including creative minds and industry experts, can come together to discuss and uncover the ways through which artists can collaborate and trade within and across their countries.
In today's interconnected world, the artistic landscape is growing beyond national boundaries. As the world becomes a digital canvas and cultural barriers dissolve, there's an ever-growing need for artists of all trades to export their work, or be exposed to global markets. However, the act of exporting art isn't just about selling a product, but about sharing narratives, forging connections, and contributing to the mosaic of human creativity. It's an opportunity for artists to transcend local spheres and participate in a universal dialogue, enriching their own work, and contributing to the colorful tapestry of our global artistic heritage.
The concept of expanding reach leads us into a much deeper discussion - one that seeks to understand the different policies governing the Film and Theatre industries across borders in order to identify opportunities through which mutual collaborations can happen. As such, some key topics to be covered during this transformative event include Unlocking Cross-National Partnerships in Film and Theatre, Navigating Legal and Financial Aspects of Cross-Border Productions, Distribution and Exhibition Strategies for International Productions, The Role of Technology in Transforming Cross-National Productions, and Future Trends and Opportunities for Collaborative Productions.
The Film and Theatre event is being held with the following objectives in mind:
Highlight key areas governing multinational and international trade
Understand media regulations among the Southern Africa region’s Film and Theatre industries
Strategize cross-cultural collaborations
Create a multinational platform for networking, idea exchange, and potential partnerships for creatives
By fostering discussions on cross-cultural collaboration and trade, this event will inspire attendees to embrace diversity, explore untapped creative avenues, and forge connections that transcend borders. It will serve as a catalyst for further cross-cultural exchange within the film and theatre industries, enriching the global creative landscape.
ELYSIAN will conduct the event as a Google Meet webinar, allowing for easy participation and engagement from a diverse and global audience. It will feature a series of insightful panel discussions, empowering presentations, and an interactive Q&A session between our panel and the audience.
The Film and Theatre event is mainly suitable for Filmmakers, Playwrights, Actors, Producers, Directors, Cultural and Arts Organizations, and Film and Theatre Enthusiasts.
